Like a Vocaloid related advent calendar, Crypton has opened the final window and has given us our first look, or rather listen to, the “English” append of their upcoming Vocaloid 3 revision of KAITO. Originally a VOCALOID 1 voicebank Kaito is one of the first Vocaloid ever released.
Don’t let his age fool you, though old the V1 engine was no slouch and in the proper hands KAITO was able to rival many of his V2 counterparts. With a V3 release, he is being given new life, being able to be used in the much more powerful Vocaloid 3 Editor.
The demo song is ‘Circus Monster’ by Circus-P and is embedded below:
This is the fourth demo of Vocaloid 3 Kaito and the first for his English voicebank. The others, for his Straight, Soft, and Whisper Appends can be viewed on Crypton’s V3 Kaito homepage. You can machine translate the page into English using the options in the page header. English Kaito looks promising, though this demo probably wasn’t the best demonstration of his abilities.
Circus Monster was one of Circus-P’s earliest works and thus not the best he has ever done. Beyond that, the song choice itself is questionable. While popular, it doesn’t compliment Kaito very well. The song doesn’t flatter Kaito’s accent at all, the lyrics seemed forced into the melody, and overall the tuning seems rough.
For those interested in a Male Vocaloid 3, Kaito will definitely be a fine choice.
