PowerFX Pulls the Curtain, Presents Vocaloid 4 Ruby

news_RubyCurtains

Without much fanfare, not even a tweet on their official twitter, PowerFX has released Vocaloid 4. In a surprise turn of events on the official product listing and latest demo by VocaloidMaster (embedded below) there is no official character artwork. Instead, they feature a set of stage curtains being drawn and the text “Presenting Ruby”.

This strange release decision is likely related to the controversy previously covered in Behind the Scenes: PowerFX & Vocaloid 4 Ruby. With so much furor and pushback over the AnimeExpo reveal event’s character art PowerFX may have chosen to sidestep the controversy by not including anything whatsoever. Its unclear whether the software splash is similarly art-less as none of the Engloids.Info staff have purchased the product yet.

On Twitter Ruby’s Lead Developer Syo released a custom dictionary using Ruby’s new phonemes. As always it is probably better to avoid the dictionary pronunciations when possible but without much documentation on the new phonemes added in Vocaloid 4 this should help new and veteran users alike.

news_HyperJapanChristmas2015

VocaEuro reports that HyperJapan, a convention in London England, is going to be hosting not one, but two different Vocaloid events totaling 5 concerts across 3 days. They are “free” to anyone attending the convention but space will be limited so do arrive early. The full schedule for events can be found here.

Mirai no Neiro Sessions:

IA ROCKS Sessions:
Saturday (Afternoon)
Sunday

Mirai no Neiro
Mirai no Neiro (Sound of the Future) is a grass-roots volunteer group who aim to introduce Japan’s Vocaloid culture to countries around the world. So far they’re doing a pretty amazing job – having pulled off highly successful unofficial Vocaloid concerts in the US, Germany, Taiwan, Denmark, Switzerland, Mexico and Chile!

IA Rocks
While Mirai no Neiro is an unofficial concert IA ROCKS’ world tour is anything but. Sponsored by 1STPLACE the Vocaloid publisher has been showcasing IA across the world selling out live events in France, Taiwan and America. If you are looking for a virtual pop idol I can assure you that IA does indeed “ROCKS”.

Yamaha USA Stocks Vocaloid 4 Products, Cyber Diva Now Available to America

news_YamahaStore

In a surprise turn of events the Yamaha USA has added physical editions of the VOCALOID 4 Editor, VOCALOID 4 Editor for Cubase, and Cyber Diva to their webstore under “Music Production Software”. This is the first instance of Yamaha incorporating Vocaloid with their famous Music Production Tool lineup which includes synthesizers, stage pianos, pixers, pocket recorders, interfaces, studio monitors, midi controllers, and plug-in boards.

Beyond the historic note of mainstream Yamaha finally featuring Vocaloid as a major product line this is also the first instance of Cyber Diva being available to residents of (North) America. While previously marketed as an “American” Vocaloid she was previously unavailable through Vocaloid Store’s digital downloads to residents of North America and there was a specific notice for Americans not to purchase her through that outlet.

Right now the Yamaha USA store is purely physical products, no word on how this will affect digital downloads, plugin distrobution, or our current limbo after the planned retirement of Vocaloid Store and its lack of English replacement.

V4 Ruby Delayed, To Be Released “Soon”. Physical Edition Confirmed to Follow.

news_VocaloidRuby

Vocaloid Ruby, previously confirmed for release today[1] has been delayed. Release date is still unconfirmed but she is expected to release “any day within the next 10 days” according to the most recent tweet by Ruby’s Developer Syo. Beyond disclosing the most recent release info Syo also confirmed that a physical release is planned, but there would be some trailing time for physical production to ramp up.

The cause for Ruby’s delays are unknown, but knowing the history of botched Engloid launches I wouldn’t be suprised if Yamaha was somehow involved. Best guess is it is somehow related to Shūbun no Hi[2], the Autumnal Equinox Day, a public holiday in Japan. Its a bit unfortunate that the release dates aligned as such, but the delay doesn’t seem to be related to the voicebank itself so it shouldn’t be a cause for too much worry.

This article will be updated as additional details come in. A new post will be with Ruby release and how to buy her.
