From its subtle ambiance, to its determined drive, this song delivers more than it promises. Quite a few VOCALOID originals that try to achieve this feel, but aren't able to nail down that difficult combination of melancholy and drive.
I have been looking for a Prima original to spotlight for a while and imagine my surprise I found this gem by Vortex11316 in my inbox.
He is Vocaloid newcomer with this being first official release. Don’t underestimate him either, he is an experienced amateur musician with roots in garage bands dating back to the 70s.
Vortex’s Morning Light is has a New Age atmosphere with a 90s Pop hook. Aside from the Vocaloid vocals it is very reminiscent of Space Music and has a beautiful NASA slideshow to match.

Backstory:
This is my first original song using a Vocaloid. It’s a pop-style tune using Prima. I tried to make her sound as young as I could since her voice might be a bit mature for this kind of tune. Since this was my first Vocaloid creation, I focused on learning pronunciation using alternate phonemes, attack, and decay, and left the expression curves fixed. I’ll work on more expressiveness on future songs. The video is a collage of images from the NASA images website. I’m not a professional musician, but I’ve been creating instrumental music in my home studio since the days of 4-track reel-to-reel. Since discovering Vocaloids a few months back, I’ve been able to start to add vocals to the creative mix. Thanks for listening and thanks to all the musicians who have posted all the great Vocaloid examples. All comments, critiques, and creative ideas welcomed.

The music is very atmospheric and contemplated and with the Vocaloid vocals it is reminiscent of Malcolm Brown (LyleMusic) whom we have interviewed in the past.
For some reason Halloween seems to be the favorite holiday of the Vocaloid fandom. As a little gift to their fans PowerFX & VocaTone have collaborated and released this “gift” (I wouldn’t exactly call it a demo) to their fans featuring Sweet Ann, Big Al, and our first real listen to Oliver.

AnimeBanzai and its Vocaloid panel have come to a close and despite technical difficulties reports suggest that it was huge success. Unfortunately they didn’t allow recording of the panel itself and none of the Engloids Info staff was able to attend, so we will have to wait for a full write-up when/if a generous attendee/blogger decides to make one at a later date. Though we weren’t able to get a recording of the panel the event organizers were kind enough to share this video intro that was made for the panel and features a variety of artwork from various sources including illustrations by some of the event staff. It may have Miku vocals in the background but the video itself is not without some Engloid love so I am more than happy to share it with you. Until Miku’s English voicebank is finished this is one of the rare chances we get to see Miku on this site.
For those who were lucky to attend they did play an audio demo of some of Oliver’s songs but the PA system was less than ideal and the speakers kinda/sorta ate all his consonants. Fear not however because according to the VocaTone staff we can expect an online demo “soon” TM

It seems Bplats, Inc., under the direction of Yamaha, finally finished the updates to the international version of VocaloidStore.com (English).
Among the products they list is the full version of the VOCALOID3 Editor for digital download. So for those of you with Vocaloid 2 voicebanks and are interested in using the V3 Editor and seeing how it handles your existing Engloids it is available now for $129 USD @ VocaloidStore.com (English).
Judging from all the Yamaha badging and the presence of the Yamaha plugin directory it seems Bplat’s VocaloidStore.com will be their official storefront of Yamaha and in the future and Vocaloid.com will be regulated to a purely informational role.
Update: Do note that that while VocaloidStore.com does have an English International Webstore, is affiliated with Yamaha, and is their official retailer, it is not the ’official’ distributor for North America.
Yamaha USA has ceded those rights to East West’s SoundsOnline.com. We have reached out to East West Communications but there is no word as of yet when and if they will excercise those rights and begin selling the Vocaloid 3 Editor software.
If reports on VO are to be believed even they themselves are unsure on this that matter. As of now VocaloidStore.com seems like the best (and only) place for anyone to get the Vocaloid 3 Editor.
Hinted at for a while the first teasing look at PowerFX’s VOCALOID3 nicknamed “Oliver” has been released on VocaloidOtaku.
Details are scarce and there is no demo yet but they did tell us that he was created in conjunction with PowerFX and a new English Vocaloid company called “VocaTone” run by Anders, who you may recognize as the independent Engloid developer/programmer behind some of both PowerFX & Zero-G’s past Vocaloids.
You can get your first look/listen to Oliver at Utah’s AnimeBanzai Convention (Saturday, October 22nd @ 11:00pm) at their Vocaloid panel. Do note they are asking for no video or audio recording during the event but official demos should be online soon afterwards.
More details to come as we wait for the proper channels and their public relation officers confirm what they are authorized to tell us or not.
Update 10/16: The voicebank and art are all aready completed and it is expected to be a young, smooth, and male voice. You can expect more complete details mid-late November when the press information blackout is lifted.
As for the bird/hat featured in the teaser art it is an American Goldfinch and was chose because “It compliments Oliver’s design very nicely” and “to add a little nod to the fact that a lot of Americans worked on this project”. The bird doesn’t have a official name but the VocaTone staff seem receptive for the fans to give him/her one.
Expect a full battery of demos, art, and possibly even an official MMD model as we approach his release. We will keep this site/post updated with more news as it is released.
